Course Overview (2025)

Our EUSR Fire Safety Awareness course is a short, focused training session designed to help individuals understand fire safety risks in the workplace and how to respond effectively in the event of a fire. Delivered in line with the EUSR Scheme Specification, this course meets employer obligations under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

Successful learners will be awarded a Fire Safety Awareness registration on the EUSR, valid for 3 years.

Understanding Fire Safety Legislation

• The Fire Safety Order 2005 and employer legal duties
• The role and responsibilities of the Responsible Person (RP)
• Fire safety enforcement and penalties for non-compliance

Fire Hazards and Risks

• Common causes of workplace fires
• The fire triangle and how fire spreads
• Hazards during and after a fire (smoke, heat, structural risk)
• The impact of PPE on evacuation

Fire Prevention and Risk Control

• Conducting a fire risk assessment (5-step model)
• Active and passive fire controls (signage, alarms, sprinklers, extinguishers)
• Fire classifications and extinguisher types
• Escape routes and means of escape components
• Extinguisher inspection and maintenance routines

Fire Marshal Responsibilities

• Day-to-day fire safety checks and documentation
• Supporting evacuation procedures and fire drills
• Implementing Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs)
• Liaising with fire and rescue services during emergencies

Assessment & Certification

The course concludes with a 20-question multiple-choice test. A pass mark of 80% is required.

Upon successful completion, individuals will receive:
