Level 2 NCO Gas Assessment – FAQs

FAQS

Have Any Questions?

What is the NCO Gas qualification?

The NCO Gas qualification is the Level 2 Diploma in Network Construction Operations – Gas Pathway. It certifies competence for operatives working on live gas networks, including main laying, service installation, and emergency repairs.

How do I get NCO Gas certified?

You can get certified through a work-based assessment route with an approved centre like Evolution Safety Solutions. You must already be employed in a relevant gas network role to provide evidence of your competence.

Is the NCO Gas qualification recognised by employers?

Yes. The NCO Gas diploma is nationally recognised by employers, GIRS, DNOs, utility contractors, and regulatory bodies like Ofqual and Street Works (NRSWA).

Can I complete the NCO Gas NVQ without attending a course?

Yes. This qualification is assessment-only. You do not attend a course or classroom training. All assessment is based on real work carried out in your current role.

How long does it take to complete the NCO Gas qualification?

The qualification typically takes 6 to 12 months to complete, depending on access to work-based evidence. Each unit is completed and assessed individually through an e-portfolio.

Do I need to be working in the gas industry to enrol?

Yes. You must be currently employed in a relevant gas network role. You cannot complete this qualification through simulation or training alone — real job-based evidence is essential.

What kind of evidence do I need to upload for NCO Gas assessment?

You’ll submit photos, risk assessments, test logs, QA forms, observations, and witness statements via the QualsDirect e-portfolio system, all linked to the tasks in your qualification units.

Does this qualification include ElectroFusion and Butt Fusion training?

It includes assessment of your ability to carry out electrofusion and butt fusion jointing. However, this is not a training course. You must already be performing these tasks in your job role.

Can this help me get a CSCS or Street Works card?

Yes. Completing the Level 2 NCO Gas diploma supports your application for a CSCS card and can meet the qualification requirements for Street Works registration, depending on your role and employer.
